Jason and Melanie met at work! Melanie knew of Jason but they worked in completely different departments and had no day to day interaction. The first day Melanie “truly” noticed Jason, he was washing his lunch dishes. I love that! Melanie’s friend who worked closely with Jason became their matchmaker and instantly realized how amazing they would be together. She put in a few hints that went over like a ton of bricks, but eventually they ended up at a work conference together. Melanie asked Jason to dance, which to this day Jason insists Melanie told HIM to go to the dance floor and he didn’t understand why Melanie was telling him to go dance. Melanie took this as a rejection and felt pretty bad he had ignored her offer, but was out on the dance floor with other people anyway. Later on the bus back to the hotel, Melanie told him it was rude of him to not dance with her. Jason says this is the moment he realized Melanie liked him. Melanie truly gives new meaning to “go after what you want”, and she did! Just look at these two now!! They both always had a dream of incorporating the ocean/beach into their wedding day. When Melanie saw Del Mar Powerhouse, it was the best of both worlds. Close to the ocean, with an indoor location for the reception, plus no sand!

We loved working at the beautiful Del Mar Powerhouse! Here is what someone else thought!
“This is my all-time favorite beach. My siblings and I spent many lazy summer days here when we were kids. Less than a ten-minute drive from my parents’ house this sandy beach is beautiful and enjoyable for the whole family (dogs included!) to relax, run around and play. There are a ton of great restaurants within walking distance. The Pacific Surfliner travels past this beach.
I haven’t set foot on this beach for years, but last Saturday, the whole family gathered together here for Toshi and Amber’s (my brother and now sister-in-law) BIG DAY! It rained quite a bit, but, according to some cultures, rain on your wedding day symbolizes fertility and cleansing. I remember it sprinkled some on David and my weddingday, so I guess that means we have a handful of kiddos to look forward to in the future. 🙂
My family and I felt so blessed to attend Toshi and Amber’s wedding which turned out to be a low-key and casual event with their closest friends. Before the ceremony and reception at Powerhouse Community Center, we met up with the bridal party at the L’Auberge Del Mar for photos. The ceremony was short and sweet (just like the couple) and then it was onto the big fiesta. I found the staff to be friendly and attentive.
Parking is always a challenge. Fortunately we were issued a special event parking permit that allowed us to park at the facility.
All in all, it was a perfect day (rain and all) and we were so honored to be there for Toshi and Amber. For engaged couples planning their wedding, I highly recommend this venue!”
