When visiting or staying in the exquisite Valle de Guadalupe of the small but impressive Mexican wine valley near Ensenada in Baja California Norte, Mexico, one must experience Encuentro Guadalupe. This Frank Lloyd Wright esque resort-winery calls itself the anti-resort because this amazing place of nirvana is built right into the environment.

Baja California’s premier wine producing region is as rich in history as it is in wine. In 1905, a group of Russian pacifists’ called Molokans became refugees and migrated to what is today called Francisco Zarco. The Molokans were from the area of which present-day Turkey sits. Fleeing religious persecution by then Russian Orthodox Church, they first arrived in Los Angeles, California but found the land undesirable and headed south to the fertile Valle de Guadalupe.

Encuentro will woo you with its design and quality wine. Led by Hugo D’Acosta and Thomas Egli, These eco-friendly rooms are built right into the rugged hillside of the Guadalupe Valley. This twenty room resort thinks of itself as the anti-resort because each room is built into or around the surrounding environment. With natural Mexican hillside plants surrounding each facility and boulders inside some of the rooms, the designer wanted the entire property to not only blend but become one with the land.

The rooms are spread throughout the eleven acres of property as well as the grapes. They have vines and rooms on the front of the property when you drive up and then another section vines and rooms on the backside of the hill. Classic Mexican dirt roads lead all visitors to their rooms throughout this amazing piece of Mexican wine land.

The winery and restaurant is also built around the environment with the main facility sitting on top of two huge boulders. The wine cellar has a bar for tastings and an actual cave for storing bottles of wine. When visiting the facility, one of the many employees will great you with a smile and a small but delightful menu of delicious wines and food for dinner or lunch. The restaurant and wine bar is open to the public and groups with a reservation. Private tastings are available too upon request. The vineyards produce Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Blanc and Nebiolo, as well as other varietals. Encuentro has a limited production for sale only at the winery, so stock up when you visit because you won’t find their wine any where else.

    Hi,

I was wondering if you are currently licensing or selling any of those photos from Valle de Guadalupe? And if so for how much? I am currently looking for a handful of pics for a new website.
    Thank you very much.
